The first step for any website promotion is search engine submission. Good old days of free search engine submissions are over. Day by day free search engine submissions are becoming extinct. On top of URL submission approval takes ages which is understood as each and every link has to be verified and each day these search engines receive millions of URL submissions.

A question would arise if we have any other alternative? My answer would be no. So love it or hate it you need to sail through it.

Following are some of Search Engines where you can submit your URL. I'll keep adding more URLs as I stumble upon them.

Google
Still free. My prediction is sooner or later they are going to make it paid submission.

DMOZ
They say it is largest human edited directory. We don't use it to do any search but it is still used by many other search engines/directories. I've submitted URLs 2 years back but yet to get listed. There are a lot of other directories mushrooming up which use DMOZ. Bacially you can grab the data from DMOZ and display on your directory. You can even display complete DMOZ on your directory site.
Basically DMOZ is now taken over by SEO sharks who exploit it for their own vested interests. You see all these SEO companies which lure innocent people to pay them to add their sites in DMOZ, they are these sharks which are now editor of DMOZ. So just forget about DMOZ is is complete waste of your time.

If you don't believe me then post any URL and check result by yourself. Also try to become editor and see what you get?

"Khoj" means search in Hind/Sanskrit. It was launched during dot com boom era and was later grabbed by Sify. This website doesn't work so avoid it.
